George Rode, passed away peacefully at the Guelph General Hospital on Saturday, February 14, 2015, at the age of 81.
Born in Lavoy, Alberta, George was the son of late Adolph Albert Rode and Carrie Eileen Harmon Rode. Proud father of Linda Porter (Dave) of Elmira and Brenda Cowbrough (Kevin) of Guelph. Cherished grandfather of Shawn Porter (Stephanie), Nicole Sweeney (Kenny), and Cody Cowbrough. Great-grandfather of Owen and Kieran. George will be fondly remembered by his companion Jo-Anne Angle and her family as well as his brother and sister-in-law George and Joan Taylor of Magrath, Alberta.
Predeceased by his loving wife of 53 years, Marie Rode (nee Taylor) (2010), his granddaughter Alison Cowbrough and sister and brother-in-law Jean and Jake Parent.
George was involved his entire working life around the import, wholesale, marketing of agricultural and light industrial equipment and held many positions in same, beginning in Alberta in 1954 and transferred to Ontario in 1971 where he spent the balance of his working life and retirement. He was a long-time employee of EMDA member Eastern Farm Machinery, Guelph, Ontario Canada.
Friends may call at the GILCHRIST CHAPEL – McIntyre & Wilkie Funeral Home , One Delhi Street, Guelph, Thursday, February 19th from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel at 12:00 noon. Reception in the Trillium Room of the funeral home. Private family interment at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
