Registration for EMDA’s Golf Outing is now open!
We’re pleased to once again, offer a unique opportunity to take advantage of the Fall Convention’s proximity to another great golf course – Torrey Pines. The EMDA and FEMA Fall Conventions are scheduled for November 1-3 at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina. Plan to arrive one day earlier and participate in a golf outing at Torrey Pines. Registration information available on EMDA web site.
All EMDA members and FEMA members are invited to participate. Located about 20 miles from the Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina, Torrey Pines has long been recognized as one of the nation’s premier municipal golf facilities. Often referred to as a “golfer’s paradise,” the Championship North and South courses provide views of the Pacific Ocean to the west. Fog, rain and wind often sweep the seaside courses, testing even the most seasoned players’ skill. The course takes its name from the indigenous Torrey Pine, which is native to this area and Santa Rosa Island. The tree is distinguished by having clusters of five pine needles. Situated atop cliffs towering above the Pacific Ocean in San Diego, California, golfers marvel at the views of the coastline, deep ravines, and classic championship golf holes. Torrey Pines is the beautiful site of one of the most memorable battles in golf’s history – the 2008 U.S. Open.

Torrey Pines #18 Fairway South
Designed by legendary course architect William P. Bell and completed by his son, William F. Bell, Torrey Pines opened in 1957. It offers two 18-hole Championship courses – the North and South courses. Both courses test a player’s skill with tight fairways, lush rough, as well as trees, bunkers, sand and often challenging weather conditions. The North Course is currently undergoing renovations. See the South Course Layout here.
On the South Course, there are many holes with direct views of the Pacific, a hundred yards below the links, and several more with views of a vast natural canyon. The North Course offers several holes that are situated high atop the bluffs overlooking the coastline.
In 2001 celebrated golf course designer, Rees Jones was given the task of remodeling the South Course, an endeavor that has been met with almost universal acclaim. Now an impressive 7,607 yards in length, the Torrey Pines South Course has been selected to host the 2021 United States Open Championship.
Torrey Pines is a municipal course, owned and maintained by the City of San Diego. In addition to the North and South courses, facilities include:
- a driving range;
- practice putting greens;
- food and beverage carts; and
- a restaurant/grill at the Lodge at Torrey Pines, which is adjacent to the golf course.
- Torrey Pines boasts one of the western United States largest golf shops, offering a full range of golf merchandise for sale and the rental of golf shoes, clubs, hand and power golf carts. Group and individual golf lessons are offered by the pro staff.
